Bologna is a city with a strong culinary culture, well-known as 'Bologna la grassa' ('Fat Bologna'). You can enjoy innumerable dishes starting from pasta (tortellini and lasagne), going on with meat (prosciutto, salame and mortadella) and cheese. The local region is also well known for Parmesan cheese, Modena balsamic vinegar and of course some great wines. Are you hungry? Well because we are going to the market:::
One of the most traditional food shopping places is called "Mercato delle erbe", downtown in Ugo Bassi Street. Since the beginning of the century, this covered vegetable market was held in city centre and the present building was inaugurated in 1949, after the war devastation. There are about 60 stalls; the core of the market is mostly dedicated to fruit and vegetables but in the outer walls you can find more of the local products: cheeses, pastas, bread, fish and meat.
The amazing news is that last year it was recovered and renovated creating a modern and animated place where, near the indoor market, you can taste local food at any time in the day. It offer such a rich variety of dishes: you can choose from trying handcraft beers, local wines, fresh fruit shakes, pizza and panini. There is also a restourant with the most famous dishes of our region.
I like this market so much because there is a modern atmosphere into a vintage context because all the shop sign are original!
So this week end I discover this fabulous market with my friends::: what a perfect place to rest and refresh after shopping!
Have a great Tuesday!

beautiful picture tour of the market place, seems really exciting. hugs!!
Your description of Bologna sounds so good. I long for good food, nice markets and good weather. We have markets here as well, and I work on two of them, but the weather here is awful at the moment. It's stormy, rainy and cold, nobody enjoys visiting a market, everybody just rushes to do the shopping. Thank you for your nice words you left on my blog. Viola
